Cultural Adaptation

Named practice

Second Voice creates Spanish adaptations for English-first AI, educational, policy, and civic content—written to be understood.

Practice

Second Voice

Part of Cultural Adaptation and part of Acevedology. The name identifies the practice; it does not create a separate brand.

Most Spanish versions of English content were not written in Spanish. They were translated into it—and the difference shows. Stiff register, borrowed syntax, terminology that doesn’t land. Readers sense it immediately, even when they can’t name it.

I work with educators, nonprofits, community organizations, and small teams who need Spanish that reads like it was written in Spanish: preserving meaning, tone, and intent while making the language usable for the audiences you are actually trying to reach.

This is not automated translation. It is adaptation—informed by ten years of large-scale language evaluation, native Latin American Spanish, and ongoing research on AI and language systems across the Americas.

Context

The practice and the longer inquiry

Second Voice is applied work. It also sits beside the longer-term Acevedology research on language access and culturally situated language systems.

The practical question is immediate: can a Spanish-speaking reader use the material on its own linguistic terms? The research asks how those terms are represented, evaluated, and made visible inside larger technical systems.
